About the tomb

This significant monument was constructed during the same period (mid 13th century BC) as the tombs of Atreus and Clytemnestra and its dome is intact. It lies within the olive grove, approximately 50 m. away from the trail, but, given that it is not visible from the trail and that there is no signage, it is impossible to locate the tomb, unless one is aware of it, no matter how many times an individual crosses this road.

The Tomb of the Genii is the oldest and smallest monument of this group and, at the same time, one of the best-preserved. Its dome has a diameter of 8.40 meters. Inside the chamber, there are graves dug on the floor, where the dead were placed.

The villagers also refer to it as the tomb of Orestes, even though this is not the tomb of that king, taking into consideration that it was built during the first half of the 13th century BC, while Orestes reigned in the early 12th century.
